This month has been different.
The five Mundy sisters acquired a wireless radio, and dance music — when the battery works — now fills the kitchen.
Jack, eldest brother and local hero, arrived back home after working abroad for 25 years.
Gerry, the wayward father of the youngest sister’s illegitimate son, turned up unannounced on the doorstep.
And all of Ballybeg is in the grip of the upcoming Lughnasa festival: “I hope you’re not going to miss the harvest dance, Miss Mundy. It’s going to be just supreme this year”.
The household is under threat; beliefs are challenged; secrets blurted out; loyalties fractured...
Change seems inevitable for the Mundy’s.
